Stay orders on construction of double lane road project have been issued by the Supreme Court on Tuesday. The total worth of this project is Rs 12000 crore with an objective to enhance connectivity to Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. Eventually, this will improve movement of traffic on this double-lane highway. However, an objection reached the Apex court talking about environmental impact which resulted in issuance of a stay order on earlier NGT order.<\/p>\n
As per the reports, during this project 25000 trees were cut and the total project would have cost more than 60000 trees for its completion. Additionally, the objections were raised that there was no proper planning for construction waste disposal, eventually wastes were dumped in the Ganga and it\u2019s side streams. An Environment Impact Assessment was also not done prior to initiate the project. Even the mandatory permits from forest and wildlife division were not taken.<\/p>\n
The Supreme Court has directed the state as well as central government to give their reply before 15 th November that comes out to be the next hearing date of this case.<\/p>\n
