On Friday, The Supreme Court has stayed on orders of Uttarakhand High Court and has instructed AIIMS Rishikesh to hand over the dead body of GD Aggarwal to an Ashram in Haridwar.

GD Aggarwal, also known as Swami Gyanswaproop Sanand, after fasting for 111 days died in AIIMS Rishikesh. He was demanding the Centre to take required steps so as to keep the Ganga clean and free-flowing.

Prior to this, the High court had instructed the hospital to hand over GD Agarwal’s body to the Ashram -Maitri Sadan so that his followers can pay their last respects to him and perform the religious ceremonies.

Swami Avimukteshwaranand- Spiritual Guru of GD Aggarwal has claimed on body of Aggarwal. On the contrary, according to the hospital authorities he has pledged to give his organs for research.

As per the directions of High Court a PIL, The Senior Superintendents of Police, Dehradun, and Haridwar will make sure that the body of Swami shall be handed over to AIIMS Rishikesh after 72 hours when his followers are done with the final prayers. This is mandatory otherwise the body will become unfit for organ donation.
